Cowboy Diver Mark Murdock Qualifies for USA Senior Nationals

July 21, 2009

University of Wyoming Cowboy divers Mark Murdock and Kyle Bogner competed this past weekend at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone C meet in Minneapolis, Minn.

The preliminary meets offer a chance for divers to earn a spot in the USA Senior National competition.

Murdock qualified for the Senior National meet on the 10-meter platform by placing third, while Bogner just missed on one-meter, finishing seventh.

"Mark did an excellent job and was able to qualify on platform," said UW diving coach Ben Herdt. "It has never happened for a Cowboy diver to qualify for Senior Nationals, so it is very exciting. Mark almost qualified on three-meter as well. Kyle also did a great job and narrowly missed making the cut on one-meter."

Murdock, diving for the G.C. Diving Club out of Texas, also entered the one-meter and three-meter events, placing 11th and seventh respectively. In addition to his one-meter performance, Bogner (Mile High Dive Club) also finished ninth on the three-meter board.

Murdock's score on platform was 348. This would have been an all-time UW school record, but since it was not an NCAA event it will not be written in the record books.

The USA Senior Nationals will be held Tallahassee, Fla., on August 11th through the 16th.
