Former University of Wyoming swimmer Scott Usher helped Team USA defeat Australia in the 2005 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, Tuesday night in Irvine, Calif.
The United States won 18 of 28 events on the night as they defeated Australia 190-102 in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,600 at the Woolett Aquatic Center.
Usher, a Grand Island, Neb. native, earned points for the United States in both the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke events. He turned in a second place time of 2:14.65 in the 200 and a fourth place time of 1:02.30 in the 100. World record holder Brendan Hansen won both breaststroke events by swimming times of 59.51 in the 100 and 2:10.07 in the 200.
Michael Phelps led Team USA by picking up four event wins. He won the 200 and 400-meter IM, the 200-meter butterfly and was a member of the first place 400-meter medley relay team. The USA women were led by Katie Hoff who won both the 200 and 400-meter IM's.
