University of Wyoming All-American swimmer Scott Usher placed third in the 200 meter breaststroke with a time of 2:14.17 at the 2003 USA National Swimming Championships in College Park, Maryland.
Usher's time of 2:14.17 places him among the elite breaststrokers in the nation. His time today was the second fastest time swam by an American at the championships. It is the fourth fastest 200 backstroke in the nation this summer and the 20th fastest time in the world.
"I was very pleased with Scott's performance today,"said UW head coach Tom Johnson. "This is a big steptoward next year's Olympic trials. If he keeps working hardand improving and with a little luck, he has a good chanceat making a run at the Olympics."
Usher will continue to compete this Friday when he willswim the 100 breaststroke. Fellow Wyoming swimmer Ethan Maclean will also compete in the championships when he swims the 100 backstroke on Friday. Preliminary action will begin at 9 AM Eastern time and the finals are set for 6 PM.
"We are really looking forward to Friday," addedJohnson. "Scott will have a good shot at the national championship and Ethan is very excited to get into the pool."
