Wyoming Swimming and Diving Team Hires New Diving Coach

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head swimmingcoach Tom Johnson has announced the hiring of Russ Dekker as theprograms new diving coach.

Dekker comes to Wyoming from Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti, Mich.,where he has been the diving coach since 1996. During his time there hecoached three Michigan State Diving Champions, nine NISCA All-Americansas well as the 2001 National High School Champion. Dekker has beenawarded Michigan State High School Diving Coach of the Year honors in1999 and 2000. He also coached the Chippewa Diving Club and LegacyDiving Club where he coached 11 junior national qualifiers and threesenior national qualifiers.

"We are very pleased to have Russ join our staff," said Johnson. "Hecomes highly recommended by some outstanding collegiate diving coaches.He will be a tremendous asset to the program. He's demonstrated that heis one of the great up and coming diving coaches in the country."

Dekker competed collegiately at Eastern Michigan University where hereceived a bachelor of science degree in physical education and a minorin communications. He was selected the Mid-American Conference Diver ofthe Year in 1995 and was a four-time NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier and athree-time Mid-American Conference Academic All-Conference selection.He helped lead Eastern Michigan to three MAC Team Championships in thefour years he competed.
