LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming Swimming and Diving team will begin the 2010-11 season with the Brown and Gold Dual, on Friday, Oct. 8 at Corbett Pool, beginning at 5 p.m.
"This is a great way for us to start the season and see how our lineup will shake out," UW head swimming and diving coach Tom Johnson said. "I know the kids are chomping at the bit to get on the blocks and compete against someone, and I know with the winner getting out of Saturday morning practice they will compete hard."
For the Brown and Gold meet the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be split into coed teams to compete against each other. The Brown team will be led by junior captain Lauren Hewson and senior captain David Schmitt, and the Gold team will be led by senior captains Lesley Young and Brett Henehan.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls were both picked to finish in the top four of the Mountain West Conference. The 2009 MWC runner-up Cowgirls were picked to finish third in the preseason MWC coaches poll, behind the BYU Cougars and the San Diego State Aztecs, respectively. The Cowboys were chosen to finish in fourth place behind UNLV, BYU and Air Force.
"We have seen some very good swimming from some of the top teams in our conference, and we can see why they were picked to finish highly," Johnson added.
The Brown and Gold meet will be open to the public and admission will be free of charge.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will begin regular season competition on Friday, Oct. 15 against Mesa State at Corbett Pool beginning at 5 p.m. All home swimming duals will be free of charge to the public.
