DENVER, Colo. - University of Wyoming Cowboy junior swimmer Adam Kalms was named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. It is his second weekly conference honor of his career, after being named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 14, 2012. Kalms is the second Cowboy to garner a weekly WAC award, as senior Derek Campbell was named Diver of the Week last week by the conference office.
Kalms, a junior from Marmong Point, Australia, won both individual events he competed in against Air Force last Saturday in UW's 179-121 win in the WAC Opener. He was also a member of two winning relays. He opened the meet with a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.56 (altitude adjusted), the fourth fastest in Cowboy history. He then added a victory in the 100 butterfly with another altitude adjusted time of 49.34, the fastest in the conference this season. Kalms was a member of the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams that earned wins. His leadoff time in the 100 free is another WAC season-best time of 44.81 (altitude adjusted).
