LARAMIE, Wyo. - Following their 178-122 dual win over Denver last week, a pair of Cowgirls were named the Mountain West Conference's Swimmer and Diver of the Week on Wednesday. Sophomore Megan Evans was named the swimmer of the week and senior Brittany Wainwright was named the diver of the week.
Evans, a Fort Collins, Colo., native, brought home three individual titles in the Cowgirls' dual meet victory at Denver, breaking into the Wyoming record books in all three events in the process. Her winning time in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.06) is the fourth-fastest time in school history, while her time of 2:19.71 in the 200 breaststroke ranks fifth all-time. She also turned in a time of 2:06.53 in the 200 individual medley, which ranks fourth all-time in the Wyoming record books. All three of Evans' times are the fastest in the MWC this season. This marks the first career MWC weekly award for Evans.
Wainwright, from Evanston, Wyo., won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events vs. Denver. She began the meet by winning the 1-meter dive with a score of 264.53, which was less than half a point from NCAA Zone qualification. She followed with a victory in the 3-meter event with a score of 240.90. This marks the fourth time that Wainwright has been named the MWC's Diver of the Week in her career.
