WOODLAND, Calif. - Wyoming Cowboy senior swimmer Brandon Fischer earned UW swimming and diving's first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week honors for his Senior Day performance against Air Force on Friday, Nov. 11.
Fischer, a native of Livermore, Calif., touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, while also winning the 200 individual medley. Fischer helped lead the Cowboys to their first dual victory of the season downing Air Force on Senior Day, 190.5-109.5. In the 200 breast, Fischer won with a time of 2:01.79, which tied the Corbett Pool record held by former Cowboy and Olympian Scott Usher. Fischer was also close to Usher's pool record in the 100 breaststroke swimming a time of 55.49, which was just shy of the current record of 55.45. He also won the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.16. Fischer also helped the 200 medley relay team to a victory swimming a 1:31.78, which is one second off the pool-record time of 1:30.75.
"This is a very much-deserved honor," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "For him to put up the performances he did in our pool is just tremendous. Almost breaking Scott's (Usher) 100 breaststroke record and tying his 200 breast time is awesome. I am really happy he is swimming that fast this early in the season."
