COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming junior swimmer Kelsey Conci was honored as the female swimmer of the week, announced Tuesday by the Mountain West Conference.
"This is a very well deserved honor for Kelsey," Wyoming head swimming coach Tom Johnson said. "Her performances over the weekend were tremendous and it just shows how hard she works."
Conci, a native of Craig, Colo., placed in the top 10 in each of her three events at the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Austin, Texas. She broke her own school record in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 54.27 seconds to finish 10th. The junior, who also posted the ninth-fastest time in league history in the 50-yard freestyle (22.95), led off for the Cowgirls' 200-yard freestyle relay that turned in a time of 1:34.92 for sixth place. This marks Conci's first MWC swimmer of the week honor in her Cowgirl career.
"Kelsey has had a great fall and summer, improving almost every week," Johnson added. "This just shows the hard work that she and (assistant) coach Matt Leach have put in this season."
Other MWC weekly swimming and diving honors went to TCU junior Laszlo Gyurko and senior Kyle Callens, who were named men's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. The women's diving honor went to Utah sophomore Ellis Walters.
