Wyoming juniors Scott Usher and Adam Miller have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. This is the third career weekly honor for Usher and the fourth for Miller.
Usher, a Grand Island, Neb., product, turned in second-place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breastroke at the 2003 U.S. Open last weekend in Seattle, Wash. He was the top American finisher in both events, while turning in NCAA Championship "A" Cut qualifying times. In the 100 breastroke, Usher's time of 53.50 not only is his career best, but is the top time in the nation this season and is a new all-time MWC record. He followed with a time of 1:57.27 in the 200 breastroke, which is currently the second fastest time in the nation this year and moves him into second-place all-time on the conference all-time list (0.67 seconds behind his own all-time record).
Miller, a Newcastle, Wyo., native, had a second-place finish in the 3-meter diving event and a third-place finish in the 1-meter diving event at the Eastern Michigan Diving Invitational in Ypsilanti, Mich. He turned in a score of 438.60 in the 3-meter, and a 281.70 in the 1-meter. His score in the 1-meter is tops in the MWC this season.
