LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Jay Petsch

What is your favorite field event and track event to participate in?
"110 hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay. The field event is the javelin because it makes you feel like a Spartan!!!"

What is the most difficult event you participate in to master?
"The pole vault because it took forever for me to land on the mat. I keep missing and falling on the ground, it hurt after a while and I think I gave Quincy a heart attack each time I tried to go up! Also the javelin was hard because it was nothing like throwing a baseball or a football!"

Have you ever gone backwards when doing the pole-vault?
"Yes, about 15 times and every time I landed on the run way!! Hurt a little bit!"

What do you usually order from Subway?
"Italian BMT on cheese bread. Just meat and cheese and a little bit of red wine vinegar."

What kind of music do you listen to when you work out? What really gets you going?
"During lifting I really like to listen to something that hits hard and is playing loud, like rap or rock/head banger music. During jumping events like high jump I like to have pop music playing just something I can sing to and get my mind off the bar! Right before a race I like to listen to relaxing music! Calms the nerves."

If you could have one super-power what would it be and why?
"The speed of the Flash, or the ability to get out of speeding tickets!!"

If you could participate in one other sport in college what would it be?
"Baseball, I would play outfield and steal bases like crazy!"

What is one thing you would add to your sport to make it more exciting?
"I would make it so the starters can shoot you when you false start. Not shoot to kill but just wound them like in the leg. It will get rid of all the false starts!"

Did you look up to any athletes growing up and why?
"Phil Mickelson because I loved golf and he was a lefty and I'm a lefty and he was also from Arizona. Also I really like Ryne Sandberg, 2nd baseman for the Chicago Cubs. He played the game so well and did it for the love of the game. I meet he a couple of time at spring training games too."

What team did you pick to win March Madness?
"Wake Forest, I had them and ASU meeting in the finals. I just thought I would take a chance and go out on a limb this year!"

What is your favorite home-cooked meal?
"A huge steak, potatoes and corn!"

Why did you chose the University of Wyoming?
"The wonderful weather of course!! And the fact that the wind never stops blowing! HA HA. I really liked the coaches and the school itself!!"
