The University of Wyoming track and field team turned in some strong performances Saturday to conclude the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
After a tough day Friday, the Cowboys and Cowgirls came out Saturday with a new attitude and the results reflected that. Two more UW all-time top-10 marks were set and for the season, the Cowboys and Cowgirls have set 13 top-10 all-time UW marks.
"We looked like a college team today," Wyoming coach Don Yentes said. "We made some strides today and did some nice things. Hopefully we can keep putting it together the next three weeks."
Freshman Jessica Lemaster finished fifth in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:06.48. That time was a personal-best mark for the rookie runner.
Sophomore Natalie Hurst was the only UW runner to compete in the 600-meter finals, finishing seventh with a time of 1:38.07, a personal best.
Freshman Holly Page finished sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:53.87, good for fifth on UW's all-time top-10 list.
In the consolation finals, sophomore Jenna Mann placed seventh in the 60 hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.89 seconds after finishing 15th in the preliminaries. Sophomore Samantha Kee finished second in the 200 with a time of 25.03 after finishing 9th in the preliminaries. Erin Kirby, a sophomore, finished second in the 400 with a season-best time of 56.65 after finishing ninth in the preliminaries.
The 4-by-400-meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:47.66. The quartet of Kee, Lindsey Simmons, Kirby and Wollert earned the sixth-best time in UW history.
Sophomore Caleb Her Many Horses finished fifth in the 1-mile finals with a time of 4:12.76.
Junior Michael Banks finished 11th in the 3000 finals with a time of 8:38.70. and Senior Taylor Kelting finished 8th with a time of 8:18.82 while Sophomore Garrett Zans finished 13th with a time of 8:43.00 .
Four UW sprinters competed in consolation finals, and three finished in the top 10.
Junior Lenyn Leonce was the only Cowboy sprinter to compete in the 200 consolation finals, finishing fifth with a time of 22.13.
Two UW athletes competed in the final round of field events. Junior Tyler Skinner finished tied for 13th in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, ¼ inch, while sophomore Emily Moore was 13th in the triple jump with a jump of 36-9 ½.
The track team is in action again on Feb. 10, at the Air Force Invitational as well as the Husky Classic.
