UW Track Finishes Action With More All-Time Marks

The University of Wyoming track and field teams continued to progress nicely Saturday as the split squads wrapped up action in two states.

Sophomore Kirsten McKen was fourth in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:19.99. Junior Abi Bever was fifth in the 1-mile run, 5:17.71. Freshman Devon England and junior Felicia McAfee were third and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.

Senior Chantel Bernabo was 16th in the finals of the 60-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 7.84 seconds. That was a season-best time for the Cowgirls in the event.

Freshman Samantha Kee made her way into the Cowgirl record books in the 200-meter dash, finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 24.88 seconds. That was 10th on UW's all-time top-10 list. Senior Lindsey Simmons also shined in the 400, finishing fourth (57.72) with her best time all season.

Sophomore Jenna Mann was eighth in the 60 hurdle finals, 8.75 seconds. That was a career best and was eighth on UW's all-time list. Junior Brittany Rehm was 20th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1 inch.

The 4-by-440-yard relay team of sophomore Taylor Gardner, junior Diana Long, freshman Audrey West and junior Olivia Heaston was fourth in the event, 3:53.91.

Junior Ken Lane was third in the 800-meter run, with an altitude-converted time of 1:54.30. That was 10th in UW history.

Senior Travis Gunderson was 14th in the 60-meter dash, 7.08 seconds. Freshman Colin Herold came within a whisper of the school record in the 60 hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 8.19 seconds. He is now second all-time in UW history. Junior Mark Flegel was 10th in the same event, 8.44.

Junior Stephen Michel participated in the triple jump for the first time all season, and was sixth in the event with a mark of 48-2 ½. That was UW's top mark this season in the event.

"We were a little bit better in a lot of things and just missed out on a few things," Wyoming head coach Don Yentes said. "Whether it was a bad start, a false start or a blowup before a hurdle, it was stuff like that. Otherwise, we're making a little bit of progress."

At Husky Classic
Senior Michael Banks finished 46th in the 3,000-meter run, 8:41.33. Sophomore Caleb Her Many Horses was 47th in the 1-mile run, 4:12.91.

Sophomore Andrea Klimowski was 63rd in the 1-mile run, 5:09.30; and freshman Jessica Lemaster was 69th, 5:11.49. Sophomore Candace Wollert was 21st in the 800, 2:12.90.

Senior Ashley Hutchinson won the women's weight throw with a toss of 63-7 ½. Freshman Shreese Daniels was ninth in the same event, 58-8 ½; and senior Anna George was 22nd, 53-9 ¾. Hutchinson was fifth in the shot put, 47-2 ¼. Junior Mollie Dahl and Daniels were 10th and 11th in the shot, respectively.

Senior Joe Plante won the weight with a personal-best mark of 64-7 ¼. That mark was 10th all-time in UW history. Junior Mark Sparks was fourth in the same event, 59-5 ½.

"Coming in against Pac-12 schools, it was a very competitive effort," UW throws coach Paul Barrett said. "It was pretty good showing."

Wyoming will host the Shine Invite on Friday in Laramie, Wyo.
