FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirl track team had one representative in the first day of the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Junior Afiya Walker took to the 400-meter track and was one of 18 women to do so in the country. The experienced 800-meter runner started in the block to compete in the 400-meter dash.
"Afiya is probably the only one out here who moved down distances than move up, and I'm proud of her to make it the national level in only a year and a half after moving," said head coach Don Yentes.
Walker finished the race in 18th place with a time of 55.65. Francena McCorory from Hampton University, leads the top-eight to the finals that will be completed tomorrow.
"She had a tough day but hopefully we can use this experience at the national level for the outdoor season," said Yentes.
Junior Jeremiah James will also be competing tomorrow in the triple jump at 4:30 p.m. (MST)
