GREELEY, Colo. -
The University of Wyoming track and field teams started the outdoor season by winning 21 events in the Tom Benich Classic, hosted Friday by the University of Northern Colorado.
Some event highlights included wins by the Cowgirls in the 200-meter dash, 1,500-meter run and 100- and 400-meter hurdles. Members of the Cowboy contingent won the 200 and the 800, along with the 110- and 400-meter hurdles.
It was an optimistic start for the teams, Wyoming coach Don Yentes said.
"This is the first time in over two years that we've been able to practice outside all week and have a meet in decent weather," he said. "We had some nice solid performances for opening day. We won a lot of things, but mostly, we just got through a lot of events and opened up very well."
The Cowboys and Cowgirls are back in action March 28-31 in the Texas Relays and March 31 in the Fum McGraw Quad in Fort Collins, Colo.
