A small contingent of Wyoming student-athletes took to the track in The Swamp, and came away with some solid performances.

Freshman Garrett Zans provided the fireworks for Wyoming on the day, finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time of 9:01.37, a personal record, was good enough to put him ninth on Wyoming's all-time top-10 list.

Senior Afiya Walker ran to a time of 54.77 seconds in the 400-meter dash, despite suffering from an allergic reaction which caused her eyes to nearly swell shut. She finished 16th.

"We had some tired legs, but there was good effort. It was a big crowd, and a really fun atmosphere," Wyoming coach Don Yentes said.

Sophomore Brandon Douglass was 34th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.90 seconds, and Michael Tasker followed in the same event, finishing 46th with a time of 15.72.

Candace Wollert was 14th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.12.

Wyoming's throws crew also performed well. Leading the way was Joe Riccio, who finished 13th in the hammer throw (181-7). Amanda Aimone was 15th in the discus with a season-best throw of 139-3, and Ashley Hutchinson was 23rd in the hammer throw with a toss of 157-2.

The Florida Relays will continue Saturday, and a large group of Wyoming tracksters will compete in the CSU Triangular on Saturday in Fort Collins, Colo.
