PUEBLO, Colo., - Two University of Wyoming Track and Field athletes began action at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational in Pueblo, Colo., on Thursday.
Cowboy senior Jay Petsch and Cowgirl junior Britney Jackson competed in the decathlon and heptathlon respectively. After the first day, Petsch leads the men with a total of 3,778 points while Jackson is in fourth with 2,497 points.
In five events total for the men, Petsch was the leader in three of them, the 100-meter dash (11.47), the long jump (23' 11.75") and in the 400-meter dash (49.27). It was his personal best in the long jump and in the high jump where he cleared 6' 3.5".
"We are using this meet as a nice starting point for the multi-events and I am pleased with the way that both Jay and Britney are performing," said assistant coach Quincy Howe.
Jackson had her best event in the high jump where she placed second clearing the bar at 5' 3.25" as well as finishing seventh in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.67) and in the 200-meter dash (27.39).
Petsch will compete in five more events on Friday as Jackson still has four remaining for the Cowgirls.
