UW Track & Field Completes Competition at Mount Sac Relays

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

A small group of athletes from Universityof Wyoming Track and Field program wrapped up competition at the Mount SacRelays in Walnut, Calif. on Saturday. The meet is one of the biggest of theoutdoor season and features the top schools and athletes from around thecountry.

Highlighting Wyoming was sophomore Jessica Fox who broke her two-week oldschool record in the 400 meter dash by taking first place with a time of52.30 seconds. The Burns, Wyo. native competed in the OlympicDevelopment division in the event and her time is the second fastest inMountain West Conference history while currently being the third best timein the nation.

Senior Adelaide Harper ran a career second best time of 24.25 in the 200meter dash to finish 14th. Senior Kim Demers ran an NCAA Regional qualifyingtime of 1:01.00 in the 400 meter hurdles to place 20th. Other Cowgirlnotables were freshman Kaylyn Doyle placing 22nd in the shot put (44' 7")and senior Andrea Batt taking 25th in the shot put (44' 2.75").

Senior long jumper Mervin Swaby shined for the Cowboys taking sixth placein his event with a mark of 23' 10". Freshman Jeremiah Johnson ran a careersecond best time in the 800 meters, 1:51.52 seconds, to place 25th in theevent. In the 400 meter dash, senior Cody Millemon and freshman RobertHarris finished 19th and 26th with times of 48.26 seconds and 49.03 seconds,respectively. Sophomore Brad Vodicka recorded the fourth best throw in hisflight of the shot put, 53' 11.75", to finish 19th overall, and seniorQuincy Howe finished 12th in the Invite competition of the triple jump withat leap of 50' 9.5".

"I think we had a mix of good with the bad today," said UW head track andfield coach Don Yentes. "We had some nice performances overall and I amhappy how we ended up. We are now on the down side of our season andhopefully we will keep cranking it up."

The UW track and field teams will next compete at the Glenn MorrisDecathlon and Jack Christensen Invite in Fort Collins, Colo. April 24-26.
