April 22, 2005

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming multi-event athletes showed signs of personal improvement at the Glenn Morris Mult-Event, Friday afternoon in Fort Collins, Colo.

Junior Leah Burke was the lone Cowgirl to finish competition while junior Eric Suter and sophomore Phillip Thomas participated for the Cowboys.

Burke, native of Cheyenne, Wyo., finished seventh with an overall score of 4,109 points. This point total was a season best and only two points shy of her own personal record. Burke's finish was also good enough for two team points heading into tomorrow's Jack Christenson Invite.

Thomas, a Vacaville, Calif. native, posted a score of 5,564 points in only his second career decathlon. His score would prove to be enough for third place and six team points. Suter, from Rock Springs, Wyo., finished fourth with a season best point total of 5,381 and five team points. Senior Bret Zowada scratched out of competition due to minor injuries.

The UW track and field will continue competition tomorrow with the Jack Christenson Invite in Fort Collins, Colo.
