A small group of the University of Wyoming track and field team competed at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday. The Drake Relays in one of the most prestigious track meets in the country based on the rarity of its relay events.
The Cowgirl 4x200-meter relay team ran the second fastest time in school history of 1:37.76. The team consisted of senior Adewunmi Abudu, junior LaTasha Rudolph, and sophomores Sharon Larrier and Shaylee Babbitt. In the 5,000-meters, both senior Jennifer Thompson and sophomore Gretchen Fagley each ran their second fastest times in the event. Thompson ran a time of 17:08.17 and a 12th place finish, while Fagley finished 13th with a time of 17:08.48.
For the Cowboys, senior Brian Knight and sophomore Michael Huntington were the only two competing. Knight finished ninth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:27.64, while Huntington's time of 14:49.47 was good enough for 15th place.
Six additional Wyoming athletes will compete tomorrow at the Drake Relays, while the rest of the team will begin competition at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday.
