Wyoming Track & Field Competes At Final Meet Before MWC Championships

Colorado Springs, Colo. - A small group of University ofWyoming track and field athletes competed at their final meet of the 2003outdoor season in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday. Five UW athletes tookfirst place in their respective events at the Ris Western Twilight meet,held on the campus of the Air Force Academy.

Senior Mervin Swaby took first place in the long jump with a mark of 23'6.25". In the shot put sophmore Brad Vodicka had the first place mark with aput of 52' 10.75" while senior John Griffith took second place with hisdistance of 48' 11.75". Griffith also took first place in the hammer throwwith a mark of 184' 4". Senior Dan Williams' distance of 171' 7" was thethird best mark in the hammer throw.

In the women's 100 meter dash junior Kima Wells crossed the finish line in12.31 seconds to take first place. Senior Kelly Ann Charles also grabbedfirst place honors with a time of 14.13 in the 100 meter hurdles andsophmore Melissa Vallejos recorded a distance of 163' 6" to take third placein the hammer throw.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will now prepare themselves for the 2003 MWCOutdoor Championships May 14-17 in Albuquerque, N.M.
