LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming's PhillipThomas and Eric Suter wrapped up competition Thursday in the decathlonat the Mountain West Conference Track and Field Championships, in FortCollins, Colo.
Thomas, a sophomore from Vacaville, Calif., finished in ninth placewith 5,684 points. This point total was a new personal record forThomas, who has only started competing in the multi-events thisseason.
Suter, a senior from Rock Springs, Wyo., ended up behind Thomas intenth place with 4,516 points. He was disqualified in the 110 meterhurdles and did not compete in the 1500-meters.
"Phillip competedstrong, but just came up a little short of scoring some points,"said UW head coach Don Yentes.
The rest of the UW athletes willbegin competition Friday morning with the field events starting at 9a.m. and the track preliminaries at 1:30 p.m.
