LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming track andfield team took a squad of four athletes to the prestigious ModestoRelays in Modesto, Calif., on Saturday, May 12, and came away with foursolid performances.
Senior Jason Hammond was the top finisher of the four Poke athletesplacing second in the hammer with a toss of 220-3. Teammate DerekWoodske also competed in the hammer, placing 10th with a mark of190-00. Jason Gervais finished in the top three of the discus event,placing third with a throw of 200-1. Rounding out the results for theCowboys was sophomore Seth Billy who placed fourth in the 400-meterintermediate hurdles with a time of 51.77.
"This was a very strong meet with solid competitors across the board,"said UW assistant track and field coach Paul Barrett, who traveled withthe four athletes to Modesto. "I was very pleased with Hammond andGervais' efforts, it really sets them up well for the conference meetthis next week. These guys are ready for some breakthroughperformances."
The entire Wyoming team will next compete at the Mountain WestConference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 16-19 in San Diego,Calif.
