AUSTIN, Texas - Battling rainy conditions, senior Brandon Douglass advanced to Saturday's 110-meter hurdles quarterfinals after a strong preliminary run Friday evening at the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary in Austin, Texas.

The Casper, Wyo., native placed third in his heat and 13th overall in 14.16 seconds to make the cut. The top three finishers of six heats plus the next six best times advanced to the quarterfinals round, which is set for Saturday at 6:20 p.m. MT. Douglass entered the race as a No. 19 seed and ranked 49th in the nation.

"It was a great effort on Brandon's part to do what he had to in order to advance," said Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill. "Despite the poor weather, he stepped up and had a great performance."

After a rain and lightning delay that lasted nearly four hours, the men's hammer throw was moved to Saturday morning at 9 a.m. MT when senior Joe Plante enters the field as the No. 25 seed. He tied for 17th in the discus Thursday, narrowly missing the cut for a top-12 finish to advance to the finals.

Sophomore Colin Herold also ran the 110-meter hurdles Friday evening, placing 47th in 15 seconds after entering as the No. 43 seed. In the women's 100-meter hurdles preliminary, junior Jenna Mann finished 37th in the field with a time of 14.27. She entered the race as a No. 41 seed in the west.

"The weather didn't help anyone today, but I thought Colin and Jenna went out and competed and fought hard, but just came up a bit short," Berryhill said.

Other Wyoming participants Saturday include senior Henry Ferreira, who competes in the javelin at 11 a.m. MT, while senior Mollie Dahl will throw the women's shot put at 5 p.m. Ferreira enters the field with a No. 17 seed and ranked 34th nationally, while Dahl has the No. 40 seed heading into the competition.

The top 12 finishers from the field of 48 in each event advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
