The Wyoming track and field squads will host a conference foe in their final regular-season indoor track meet Friday in the Robert Shine Invitational in Laramie.
Field events begin at 4:30 p.m., while track events start at 7:30 p.m. Wyoming welcomes Mountain West rival Air Force to the Hager-LeBar Indoor Track at War Memorial Fieldhouse.
Wyoming won 16 events in last year's event. The winners for the UW women included junior Erin Urbanoski in the long jump, senior Ashley Hutchinson in the weight throw (61-0 ¼) and in the shot put (48-5 ¼), junior Olivia Heaston in the 200-meter dash (26.04 seconds) and sophomore Erin Kirby in the 55-meter hurdles (8.11).
The men's team was boosted by the performances of senior Travis Gunderson in the 55-meter dash (6.42), senior Jeremiah James in the triple jump (51-9), junior Mark Flegel in the 55-meter hurdles (7.70), senior Joe Plante in the weight throw (63-6) and junior Lenyn Leonce in the long jump (23-10 ¾).
Two Cowboys are in the top 50 in the nation of their events, including senior Taylor Kelting, who is ranked 47th in the 5,000-meter run. His mark also is second in the Mountain West. Plante is 29th in the weight throw, and second in the MW.
Hutchinson is 30th in the weight throw, while freshman Shreese Daniels is 49th in the same event. They are ranked third and seventh in the conference, respectively.
The next competition for the UW tracksters is the Mountain West Indoor Championships, which will be Feb. 23-25 in Albuquerque, N.M. The three-day competition begins Thursday. Wyoming won three indoor conference titles last year, including returner junior Mario Harris in the 60-meter dash.
