LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming junior MervinSwaby has been selected to participate at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Track andField Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March 9-10, making him thefifth Cowboy athlete to qualify for the championships.
Swaby, who will compete in the long jump, will join teammates JasonGervais (35-pound weight throw), Jason Hammond (35-pound weight throwand shot put), Quincy Howe (triple jump) and Derek Woodske (35-poundweight throw) at the NCAA Championships. Swaby, a two-time MountainWest Conference Indoor Champion in the long jump, was the last men'sselection to the 280 athlete field at the NCAA Championships. He earneda spot at the NCAA's based on his provisional qualifying mark.
"I am so happy for Mervin being selected to go to the NCAA's," saidWyoming head coach Don Yentes. "I'm very thrilled we have five verydeserving athletes going to nationals. I think this may be the mostmen's athletes Wyoming has ever taken to the NCAA Championship meet."
