LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Senior Wyoming Cowboy thrower Sam Lambert will have one last opportunity to solidify his name into the 2009 NCAA Championships in the 35lb weight throw this weekend in Ames, Iowa.
This Saturday, March 7, the Iowa State Cyclones will be hosting a Last Chance Meet for any athlete that is on the bubble of qualifying for the NCAAs, to be held next weekend March 13-14 in College Station, Texas. Lambert has already provisionally qualified and currently ranks 15th in the nation in the weight throw.
"The NCAA meet usually takes in between 14 and 17 guys, it differs from year to year," said head throws coach and UW assistant coach Paul Barrett. "I have never had an athlete so ready for a meet before and I am very confident that Sam will move up in the rankings. He is really peaking at the right time and has the opportunity to make some noise at the NCAA Championships."
Lambert will look to join fellow senior Jake Shanklin, who has already automatically qualified in the weight throw, and will be throwing at approximately 12:30 p.m. with live stats available at www.cyclones.com.
