LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming track and field head coach Don Yentes announced Monday the signing of Garrett Zans of Rock Springs, Wyo., to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Cowboys in the upcoming 2010-11 season.
"We are fired up to have Garrett join our team," said assistant coach Randy Cole. "He has displayed steady improvement in his cross country and track performances and has shown the ability that will have him competing well at the collegiate level."
Zans will join Caleb Her Many Horses as arguably the top two middle distance and distance talents to come out of the state of Wyoming in several years. Zans competed in Laramie last weekend for the 2010 Indoor Championships. He came away as the State Champion in the two events that he competed in, the 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. Recently, he competed in the Simplot Games where he finished third overall and was the top Wyoming finalist in the 3,200-meter event.
"Not only is Garrett a talent in running but also an outstanding student," said Cole. "He will be majoring in the engineering department and we look forward to helping Garrett to a successful collegiate career."
