LARAMIE, Wyo. -
For the third straight season, senior Jake Shanklin will be representing the University of Wyoming track and field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships held in College Station, Texas.
The Championships will begin Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. with the women's pentathlon kicking things off. Shanklin will take to the field Saturday, March 14, at 5 p.m. at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at the McFerrin Athletic Center on the campus of Texas A&M, to compete in the 35lb weight throw.
Shanklin enters the weight throw with the fifth longest toss out of 14 competitors. There are two flights of seven that will have three throws to qualify for the finals where the top-nine will receive three more throws for the championship. In the year's past Shanklin finished 12th in 2006 and 11th in 2007 earning All-American honors in `07.
Senior Chris Rohr from Missouri currently leads the field with his throw of 22.71m (74' 6.25") earlier this season. Shanklin is not far behind with his season best 21.87m (71' 9"), that he had at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
