COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming's Ricky Faure has been named the Mountain West Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The weekly award is the first of the freshman's career.
A native of Rock Springs, Wyo., Faure won the 800 meters in his outdoor debut at last Saturday's Jerry Quiller Classic in Boulder, Colo. His altitude-converted time of 1:49.79 ranked ninth in Cowboy outdoor history in the event and currently is first in the Mountain West and fifth in the NCAA this season. Faure also helped Wyoming's 4x400-meter relay to second in 3:16 on Saturday. He ran the fourth-fastest indoor 800 meters in Wyoming history this winter in 1:50.01 at the MW Championships on Feb. 28.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls return to action at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular on Saturday in Fort Collins, Colo.
