LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming track and field programs will continue preparation for this coming weekend's John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla. after not getting the chance to compete this past weekend. The Colorado Invite was cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather.
"It's too bad that they had to cancel, but you can't really do anything about the weather," said head track and field coach Don Yentes.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls have already qualified seven athletes for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet later this year. Having one athlete, Adriana Friezen, qualify in two events, UW has already qualified the same amount of athletes they did in the entire 2006 outdoor season.
Regarding this past weekend, Yentes went on to say, "It's hard because our kids who are on the cusp of qualifying for regionals now have one less opportunity to do so."
Following the John Jacobs Invitational UW will send split squads to the Oregon Invite in Eugene, Ore., and also to the Jack Christianson Invite in Fort Collins, Colo., starting Friday April 20 and running through Saturday, April 21.
