April 15, 2009

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming senior Jake Shanklin and New Mexico senior Lee Emanuel have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's outdoor track & field co-athletes of the week.

While at the inaugural New Mexico Tailwind Invitational in Albuquerque, Shanklin out-threw the field to capture the hammer throw title with a distance of 212'-11.00" (64.91m). The mark, which is a personal-best for the Ellensburg, Wash., native, was good for sixth all-time in the Wyoming and MWC record books and is the farthest throw in the league this season. Shanklin's toss regionally-qualifies him for the NCAA Championships and currently ranks him tenth in the nation.
