LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Track andField team will be well represented as seven student-athletes havequalified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week.The meet, which will be held in Durham, N.C., will run from May 31st toJune 3rd.
Five women and two men qualified for the meet, which include seniorsRobyn Lyons and Dana Dillon, junior Jorah Roylance, sophomore JulieThomas and freshman Mandy Kinney, plus juniors Jason Gervais and JasonHammond.
Lyons, Dillon and Thomas all qualified in the hammer throw for thesecond year in a row, with Lyons also qualifying in the discus. Firsttime meet participants Mandy Kinney will compete in the shot put, whileJorah Roylance will participate in the javelin. Gervais qualified inshot put, hammer throw and discus, and Hammond will also be in thehammer throw.
Lyons, Dillon, Thomas and Gervais each earned All-American honors atthe Indoor Championships earlier this year.
"With seven student-athletes qualified, it's the most we've had for theoutdoor meet since I've been here," said head track and field coachLarry Judge. "We're very excited about nationals. We have a finerepresentation, and I feel one of the strongest groups in the nation.Obviously, seven qualifiers bodes well for our program."
