LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The NCAA's final collegiate track and field meet of the season will begin tomorrow, June 11th and run through the 14th as competitors from across the nation will compete to be named National Champion at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Senior Kate Burton will take to the field for the last time as a Wyoming Cowgirl, pursuing a National Championship in the hammer throw. In last week's NCAA Midwest Regional meet Kate finished second with her toss of 202' 8". Burton is currently ranked eighth in the nation with her personal best and UW record toss of 209' 8". The current national leader is Eva Orban, a junior from USC with a toss of 230' 3".
This will be Kate's second trip to the NCAA Championships as she made the voyage two years ago and finished in 21st place with a throw of 185' 7".
"Kate has been a tremendous athlete here at the University of Wyoming and it's nice to see all the hard work she has put in has paid off for her," said UW head throws coach Paul Barrett. "If she throws to her ability she will have a great chance to move onto the finals on Friday."
The 29 competitors will begin the qualifying round of the hammer throw at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The top 12 will move onto the finals on Friday, June 13th at 3:15 p.m.
