UW's Kate Burton Short of Finals at U.S. Olympic Trials

July 4, 2008

At the completion of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials women's hammer throw opening round on Thursday in Eugene, Ore., recent University of Wyoming graduate, Kate Burton was on the outside looking in.

She finished the day in 20th place out of 24 competitors with her best throw of 194’ 6” in the hammer throw. The top twelve competitors moved onto the finals on Saturday. The leader after the preliminaries is Jessica Cosby who threw a whopping 228’ 8” in her very first throw.

“Kate was technically off just a little bit, but she had some jitters and was a little nervous,” said UW head throws coach Paul Barrett. “She represented Wyoming very well as she was one of three other collegiate athletes competing in the hammer throw.”

“It was really a great experience for her as she moves forward in her future competitions,” said Barrett.

Results for the entire meet can be found at www.eugene08.com. Competition continues through Sunday.
