LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Cowgirl track team earned a victory in the classroom, as it was announced Thursday that the team had earned academic honors from a national coaching organization.
The UW women's track team was named as a 2011 All-Academic Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Wyoming carried a team GPA of 3.21 to receive the honor, and was among six Mountain West teams to receive the distinction.
Individually, four Cowgirls and two Cowboys were named to the 2011 Division I Men's and Women's All-Academic Track & Field team, announced last week.
As a conference, the Mountain West had 38 student-athletes named to the team, including 17 men and 21 women.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals and teams for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in his or her respective event.
To be nominated for Division I All-Academic Track & Field honors, a team must carry a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade-point average.
