The United States Track CoachesAssociation (USTCA) has awarded the University of Wyoming women'soutdoor track and field team with USTCA All-Academic Honors for theteams accomplishments in the classroom during the 2001 outdoor trackseason.
The Cowgirls were awarded All-Academic Team honors for the secondconsecutive season as they also earned the award during the 2000-2001indoor season. Wyoming was one of only eight Division I programs toreceive this award. The other teams recognized with this honor wereBrigham Young, Missouri, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Oral Roberts,Robert Morris and Washington State.
"We are extremely proud of the ladies on the team," said Wyoming headtrack and field coach Don Yentes. "Not only do we have very goodathletes on this team but we have very dedicated students who take theiracademics to a very high level. To be one of only eight teams to earnthis honor is very exciting. We take a lot of pride in this program andwhat we are trying to accomplish." Yentes said.
To earn this honor Wyoming met the criteria which required the team tohave a cumulative grade point average of 3.106 (on a 4.0 scale) with aminimum of 14 athletes on the team. The 35 member Cowgirl squad had acumulative team GPA of 3.187.
