University of Wyoming head track andfield coach Don Yentes annouced today the signing of Amanda Hopper fromKelly Walsh High School in Casper, Wyo. Yentes and his staff are very exitedabout the addition of Hopper to the Cowgirl track and field program.
"Amanda Hopper is one of the most versitile sprinters that I have ever runacross," said Yentes. "She is going to be a big help to our program rightfrom the start, she is someone that I have been looking at for the pastcouple of years."
In only her junior year at Kelly Walsh, Hopper last season won the 100-,200-, 400 and 800-meter titles in class 4A. She is also a three-time Wyoming4A state champion in the 100-meter dash. Her outstanding abilities on thetrack helped the Kelly Walsh women's track and field team win the class 4Astate championship in the spring of 2002.
"She is a tremendous talent," added Yentes. "The coaches at Kelly Walshhave done an outstanding job developing her and she is very good from the100-meters all the way through the 800-meters. She will be a huge factor inour program for years to come."
