LARAMIE, Wyo. -
With the snowfall and the first real signs of winter hitting Laramie this week, that means that it is finally indoor track and field season. The 2008-09 University of Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls will host the Wyoming Open Power Meet this Saturday at the War Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will play host to Colorado State and a few unattached athletes from across the region. The power meet will begin with the field events starting at noon and the track events beginning at 2:15.
"This will be a good test for us to see where we are in our training and be able to evaluate some talent that we have only seen on paper," said UW head coach Don Yentes. "It will be a nice dress rehearsal for our newcomers and youngsters to see what a college meet is all about."
The power meet will consist of the throws, jumps and the sprinting events. The longest race that will take place will be the 400-meter dash.
"This meet will only be the explosive events," said Yentes. "It's a nice break for our distance kids who are just coming back from the cross country season and will compete again for us at our next meet in Nebraska."
The meet is free to the public.
