COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Wyoming junior Jeremiah James has been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Week after the first week of action of the 2009-10 season.
Hailing from Morne Fortune, St. Lucia, James recorded personal best leaps in both the long jump and triple jump while competing in his first contest of the season at the Wyoming Power Meet on Dec. 5, in Laramie, Wyo. James sailed to an NCAA Championship provisional-qualifying mark of 24'-11.25" (7.60m) in the long jump to finish first in the event. The distance currently ranks first in the Conference and second in the nation, according to TFRRS.org, and replaces his third-place all-time league mark. James went on to win the triple jump with a mark of 51'-0.25" (15.55m), which also provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. His triple jump performance ranks first in both the league and the NCAA so far this season.
Next action for the University of Wyoming track and field teams will be January 22, in Boulder, Colo., at the Potts Invitational.
