COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming's Mason Finley has been named the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The weekly accolade is the second of Finley's career and first for a Wyoming track and field student-athlete this season.
Finley notched one of the top indoor shot puts in the nation to win the event at Wyoming's Power Meet on Dec. 6 in War Memorial Fieldhouse. His throw of 66-0 1/4 broke his own school record of 65-9 3/4 he set last season at Air Force and also smashed the facility record of 65-6 3/4 by Colorado State's Magnus Lohse in 1995. The toss was the farthest in the NCAA at the time and currently ranks second in the nation, while currently leading the conference by 22 feet. Finley's individual event title was one of 14 by the Wyoming track and field team at the meet.
Wyoming is off until hosting Colorado State for the Border War Dual on Jan. 18 in Gillette.
