The University of Wyoming men's and women's cross country teams both competed in their first road meet of the year when they traveled to Ft. Collins, Colo., to take part in the Colorado State Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12. Both the men and women placed seventh in team standings. The race was held at Collindale Golf Course.
In the men's race the Cowboys were led by Joe Hall, who placed 12th out of 109 runners. Hall finished the eight-kilometer race in a time of 25:42. Following Hall were Greg Schabron ,with a time of 26:42, and freshman Andy Schellenbarger, with a time of 26:43. Rounding out the finish for Wyoming were Nathan McLeland, Chris Jons, Dave Roberts and Lazarus Murei. With their top five finishers, Wyoming had a team time of 2:15.44.
On the women's side, Amy Hill was the top finisher for the Cowgirls. Hill raced to a time of 19:41. on the five-kilometer course. And in her first collegiate meet, Galena Ackerman was the second Wyoming finisher with a time of 19:53. Following Hill and Ackerman were Lisa Sims, Melissa Greer, Tara Lamay and Jessica Strahan. The Cowgirls had a team time of 1:41:39.
