Lincoln, Neb. (September 20, 2003) -- The University ofWyoming cross country teams completed their second race ofthe season at the Woody Greeno Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.on Saturday. The Cowgirls finished third in the 6k race with60 team points, and the Cowboys also finished third in themen's 8k run with 81 team points.
The Cowgirls were paced by junior Jennifer Thompson whofinished in sixth place in the university division with atime of 22:42. Junior Natalie Kean finished behind Thompsonwith an eighth place finish and a time of 22:47. OtherCowgirls who turned in great times were sophomore TaniceBarnett (13th, 23:19), junior Ashley Pederson (19th, 23:29),sophomore Emerald Reid (23rd, 23:42), sophomore KristinBrauneis (28th, 24:10), sophomore Elena Helmerick (29th,24:11), sophomore Christine Michel (31st, 24:17), juniorRachel Stacy (32nd, 24:28), freshman Lauren Tonoli (34th,24:39), sophomore Maggie Diller (39th, 25:02) and seniorJennifer Mansell (40th, 25:07).
Sophomore Brian Knight turned in the Cowboys topperformance with an 11th place finish with a time of 26:07.Following Knight was freshman Jason Sanders in 22nd place,crossing the finish line in 27:22. Senior Kyle Cheesebroughwas the third Poke to cross the line with a time of 27:24and an 23rd place finish. Other Cowboys that competed weresophomore Ragan Driver, (25th, 27:32), junior JeremeyThompson (26th, 27:40), senior Jason Delaney (27th, 27:41)and sophomore Brian Harnish (29th, 27:55).
Nebraska took the top spot in the women's race with 28points as the Air Force Academy took home the men's titlewith 15 points.
UW's cross country teams are next in action on October4th, when the compete at the Rocky Mountain Shootout inBoulder, Colo.
