Senior Garrett Zans and junior Holly Page paced the University of Wyoming cross country teams with top-25 individual finishes to earn All-Region honors at Friday's NCAA Mountain Regional in Ogden, Utah. Zans finished 14th in 29:50, while Page placed 21st in 21:07. Zans has a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual, depending on how many Mountain Region teams receive an at-large bid. Team and individual bids will be announced on Saturday.

"Garrett [Zans] did everything well today," UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. "This was by far the most complete race I've ever seen him run. From the first kilometer to the last, he was right there with the lead pack. I'm really proud that he went out there today and represented Wyoming well."

Zans' time placed him just five seconds away from third place and was the fastest 10 kilometers for a Cowboy since Mark Korir ran 29:33 at the 2008 NCAA Mountain Regional. Zans also earned All-Region honors in 2011 as a sophomore. Sophomore Aaron Derner cracked into Wyoming's fastest 10k times since 1990 with a 30:13 for 30th on Friday, as his time tied for fifth with Mark Korir's 30:13 at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Senior Mike Banks ended his cross country career with a 30:51 to place 53rd, while sophomore Amos Bowen crossed the line in 31:00 for 59th and sophomore Mike Seas rounded out UW's scorers in 31:27 for 70th.

As a team, the Pokes finished eighth with 226 points, but all seven teams in front of them were ranked in the top 30 in the nation. Northern Arizona, ranked second in the nation, took home the team title with 61 points, while Colorado, ranked first in the nation, finished second with 69 points to earn the two automatic team qualifying spots from the Mountain Region.

Despite falling near the start of the race, Page covered the 6 kilometers in 21:07 for the third fastest time by a Cowgirl since 1990. Her 21st-place finish gave Wyoming a male and female All-Region honoree in the same year for the first time since 2008.

"Holly [Page] went down pretty hard early, but give her credit that she mentally regrouped and got back in it," Berryhill said. "Sometimes that is all it takes to throw you off. This was by far her best finish at the regional meet, though."

Freshman Megan Brunette bounced back from a rough showing at the Mountain West meet to finish as UW's second runner on Friday in 21:43 for 47th. Sophomore Audra DeStefano placed 69th in 22:02, while senior Emily Swigart ran 22:33 for 97th and junior Devon England placed 104th in 22:46. The Cowgirls finished 13th as a team with 338 points, as No. 10 Colorado won with 29 points and No. 8 New Mexico was second at 64.
