The 1998 District VII Championships were held this past Saturday, November 14, in Provo, Utah. The Cowboy cross country team hoped to follow up on a strong third place showing the WAC meet. The 10K course ran through East Bay Golf Course.
Chris Lee led the Pokes with a 21st-place finish. Lee ran the course in a time of 32:29. Joe Hall followed up Lee with a 41st-place finish. Hall, a junior from Buffalo, Wyo., finished with a time of 33:03. Lee and Hall were followed by David Roberts (52nd, 33:32), Andy Shellenbarger (53rd, 33:33), Chris Jons (90th, 35:21), and Nathan McLeland (95th, 35:38).
Wyoming finished with 243 team points, good for 10th-place. The team champion was Colorado, who had 34 team points. Colorado was followed by Northern Arizona, Weber State, Brigham Young and Idaho State.
The individual champion was Adam Goucher of Colorado. Goucher ran the course in a time of 30:43.
On the women's side, Brigham Young was the team champion. Maggie Chan of BYU was the individual champion. Chan ran the 5K course in a time of 17:33, 17 seconds ahead of anyone else.
