LARAMIE, Wyo. -
In less than ideal conditions,Wyoming senior Joe Hall ran to a 112th place finish out of 255participants at the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Ames, Iowa.
Running on a frozen course, with the wind chill plunging thetemperature to minus 18 degrees below zero, Hall finished the10-kilometer course with a time of 31:50.9.
"Joe was running strong in hanging in with the top guys for the firsthalf of the race and then his lower back began to stiffen up," said UWcross country coach Jim Sanchez. "After his back started getting stiffhe just had to hang on to finish. It's really to bad for him because hehad a good chance to finish much higher and earn All-American honors. However, despite the brutal conditions Joe ran as hard as he could."
Providence College's Keith Kelly won the individual title with a timeof 30:14.5. The University of Arkansas won the men's team titlefollowed by Colorado in second and Providence College in third.
