LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming cross country program was honored recently for its academic success.
On Thursday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the teams it has chosen to honor for academic success during the 2010 season.
The Wyoming men's team achieved a team GPA of 3.18, and the women's team achieved a 3.00 to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic list. On the men's side, 152 Division I men's cross country programs qualified for the honor, and there were 192 women's programs on the list.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five regional at their respective NCAA regional championship.
"It's nice recognition for the student-athletes in the cross country program," Wyoming cross country coach Randy Cole said. "It shows they do a very solid job of combining the demands of being a top-level athlete and a student. The athletes are in a wide variety of strong academic programs, like engineering, accounting, nursing and pharmacy, to name a few."
