LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming men's and women's track and field teams are making their way to Gillette, Wyo., for Saturday's Powder River Dual, but made time to stop in Hulett, Wyo., on Friday for a "Reading with the Pokes" event.
Head coach Bryan Berryhill along with student-athletes Ricky Faure, Martin Fitzwater, Scott Carter, Jordan Charles, Audra DeStefano, Jerayah Davis and Kereston Thomas stopped by Hulett School for several hours Friday morning to read to elementary-aged children. Faure (Rock Springs), Fitzwater (Lusk), DeStefano (Gillette), Davis (Casper) and Thomas (Rawlins) all hail from the Equality State, as Berryhill identified that as one reason the Cowboys and Cowgirls wanted to do this outreach event. UW's 99-person track and field roster includes 48 natives of the state of Wyoming.
"We read in Gillette last year and it was one of our kid's favorite events of the year, so they were excited to do it this year in Hulett," Berryhill said. "We have quite a few Wyoming student-athletes on our team and the state of Wyoming does a lot for this program, so it is nice for us to give back."
Saturday's Powder River Dual with Montana State starts with field events at 12:30 p.m. MT, while running events commence at 1:30 p.m. at the Campbell County Rec Center.
