LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming’s Division of Student Affairs has announced the co-chairs for the 2016-2017 Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue (MLKDOD). Sean Blackburn, UW Associate Vice President and Dean of Students made the announcement.
“It’s my pleasure to share with you the 2016-2017 MLKDOD Co-Chairs: Sagan Hunsaker, our Project Coordinator Senior in the Wyoming Union; and Joi Thomas, Assistant Athletics Director for Administration,” said Blackburn. “We are grateful and so very excited that Sagan and Joi have accepted this important committee assignment.
“Our gratitude and thanks are owed to Macki Snyder and Ryan O’Neil for their service as co-chairs this past year. Many significant advances were made this year under their outstanding leadership.
“A key priority and focus of the Division of Student Affairs and UW Athletics is our commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence. The MLK Days of Dialogue is a signature program and demonstration of that commitment.”
Thomas was a member of the MLKDOD Committee this past year. Among her duties in the UW Athletics Department is involvement with UW Athletics Excellence at 7220 program, which is focused on helping develop leadership skills in both student-athletes and Athletics Department employees.
“It is truly an honor to have been nominated for co-chair of the Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue steering committee,” said Thomas. “I am excited moving forward as we build upon the previous 15 years of MLKDOD celebrations at the University of Wyoming.
“Sagan Hunsaker brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her position as co-chair, and I’m looking forward to working with her.
“MLKDOD has long been an institutional priority and it is vital that athletics continues to be involved and to be a part of these discussions and programs.”
The 2017 Days of Dialogue celebration will be held at the University of Wyoming from Jan. 30 to Feb. 4, 2017.
