LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - David Adams scored 24 points, including six of seven3-pointers, to give Wyoming an 82-77 win over New Mexico on Monday.
It was the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams.
The Cowboys (8-6, 1-0) led the whole game except for about a minute spreadover three intervals in the first half.
Early in the second half, Wyoming dominated 57-42 but began to lose groundon a 15-4 run by New Mexico (9-5, 0-1).
After the Cowboys edged back ahead to 69-59, the Lobos stayed competitive,reaching 71-68 with 4:48 left on a 3-point jumper by Troy DeVries. But Adamsmade two free throws and Alex Dunn sank a basket to widen Wyoming's lead to75-68.
Jay Straight made six of eight free throws in the final 22.5 seconds to icethe win for the Cowboys.
Adams' 24 points was a career high. Straight scored 21 points, including 11of 16 from the free-throw line, and David Rottinghaus added 14 points.
Danny Granger led the Lobos with 30 points and 14 rebounds, followed byAlfred Neale with 14 points and DeVries with 10.
Wyoming outshot New Mexico 55.1 percent to 52.9 percent.
